St Kitts and Nevis ranked safest island in the world

St Kitts and Nevis Island has been ranked as the safest travel destinations in the world for the year 2023.

According to reports from top travel website Travellers Worldwide, the Caribbean island has one of the highest levels of security in the world, earning it the title of the safest island to visit.

The dual-island territory has also been confirmed as safe by international governments, including those of the United States and Canada.

The United States Department of State currently categorises St Kitts and Nevis under Level 1 of its travel advisory levels, and the US government encourages American travelers to exercise base level precautions while visiting the Island.

The Government of Canada also recently listed St Kitts and Nevis as a safe travel destination for Canadian citizens.

Owing to these positive reviews from Canada and the USA, St Kitts and Nevis’ marketability as a safe travel destination has grown on a steady incline.

With 101 square miles of territory and roughly 50,000 inhabitants, the small dual-island country has a relatively low crime rate. While incidences of local petty theft are present, tourists and visitors are usually not targeted.

The newly elected labor government considers security a priority, as it is keen on maintaining the island’s image as a top travel destination for tourists worldwide.

According to statistics from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) crime in St Kitts and Nevis reduced from a typical 37.76 to about 18.80, since the new government’s assumption of office in August 2022.

In addition to the high level of security, other factors which facilitated St Kitts and Nevis’ emergence as the safest travel destination island in the world include a warm and welcoming environment for visitors, adequate public and private assistance for tourists, the country’s strong diplomatic relations with other countries, as well as its fast-growing tourism industry.
