Oman hosts 2023 Global Travel Week Middle East

Oman is hosting the 2023 Global Travel Week Middle East.

The event began on the 4th of March and will conclude on the 7th of March, 2023.

Sponsored by the Omani Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, this year’s Global Travel Week seeks to foster collaboration between stakeholders in the international travel and tourism industry and those in the Middle East region.

Over 200 travel and tourism industry experts have so far attended the weeklong event held at the Sultanate of Oman, in Muscat.

At the opening ceremony, the undersecretary of the Omani Ministry of Heritage and Tourism Ibrahim Said Al Kharousi noted that this year’s Global Travel Week is in an effort to publicize the Omani tourism industry as well as attract major industry experts to the country.

According to him, Oman recently recorded a boost in international tourist numbers with 2.9 million tourists visiting the country in 2022. This was a 348% increase from 2021 figures.

Al Kharousi also mentioned that the number of tourist attractions and lodging facilities in Oman had also grown last year.

Among some key players in the Middle Eastern tourism industry who were in attendance at the event’s opening ceremony included Ayman Al-Qudwa, the Manager of Qatar-based Falcon Travel Company.

Al-Qudwa expressed his enthusiasm about this year’s Global Travel Week, noting that the event has the potential to enhance collaboration between travel and tourism companies and organizations like his.

According to Al-Qudwa, “Oman is one of the most important destinations in the travel and tourism sector”.

In efforts to showcase Oman as a budding Middle Eastern travel destination, the event will include familiarization tours of the governorates of Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, and Al Sharqiyah North, as well as tours of major tourist attractions such as luxury hotels in and around the Sultanate of Oman. These tours will be conducted by top Oman-based tourism companies in collaboration with the Omani Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
