Cancun tourism booms with 14 million air passengers visiting Cancun airport this year

Cancun International Airport has recorded over 14 million air passengers in the first five months of 2023. In the month of May alone, the city saw over 2.6 million travelers, a 6.6 percent increase over a one-year period.

Cancun is a Mexican city on the Yucatán Peninsula, bordering the Caribbean Sea, that is a big attraction for travelers and tourists due to its pristine beaches and abundant nightlife.

Responding to the data, Cancun Governor Mara Lezama stated that the massive number of travelers, “allows us to predict an extraordinary summer vacation season.” Lezama noted that the diversity of the city and the government’s promotion of the city as a must-see tourist destination has further boosted tourist traffic.

“The natural beauties, culture, and history of Quintana Roo continue to attract more visitors from around the world. In just five months, more than 14 million passengers have been mobilized at the Cancun International Airport, generating an extraordinary forecast for the summer season,” said Mara Lezama.

Located in the state of Quintana Roo, Cancun is a significant tourist destination in Mexico that offers turquoise blue seas and bright white beaches. There are numerous nonstop flights from many U.S. cities and a vacation to Cancun is easy for all types of travelers, especially those from the US.

Cancun’s tourism industry is one of Mexico’s biggest, offering a wide array of things to do both on land and in the sea. Even Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection plans to add another 1,000 rooms to its collection in Cancun.

Meanwhile, there is a planned 4km road project that will connect the Cancun airport to the Cancun Maya Train station. The project is set to begin in July and will make traveling in the city a whole lot easier, and also bring even more travelers to the Mexican hotspot.
